Just moments ago, Ararat-Armenia went into Tbilisi and walked out 2-nil victors over Saburtalo Tbilisi, leading to an aggregate victory of 3-2. A huge, huge accomplishment for Armenian soccer.
However, it’s time to look ahead to the Europa League Playoff Round.
Waiting in the shadows for Coach Vardan Minassian’s side are F91 Dudelange of Luxembourg. Dudelange made an improbable run last year, making it all the way to the group stages, where they ultimately flamed out, being thrown in a group with Olympiakos, Real Betis and AC Milan.
While that may be the past, the experience earned from those games will pay dividends for the Luxembourg side.
Dudelange started out their European campaign in the Champions League qualifiers, going down to Valletta of Malta due to away goals, entering the Europa League during the second qualifying round. Same route taken by Ararat-Armenia.
In which, they dispatched Shkendija from Macedonia 3-2 before taking care of Nomme Kalju of Estonia by a 4-1 aggregate margin.
Of the 10 goals scored thus far in European competition, Dominik Stolz is responsible for four, including a hat-trick during the first leg against the Estonian side. In fact, Stolz has scored 20 times in 49 appearances for Dudelange.
More on the Dudelange to come before the match days of August 22nd and August 29th.
